MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT SAN

What does a shop steward do?

As a shop steward, you can help coworkers understand their agreement, represent their interests, and strengthen the connection between our SAN crew and union leadership.

01

Help you understand your contract

Stewards help members find and understand agreement provisions, and seek guidance from union representatives when a question needs further review.

02

Listen and represent members

They listen to workplace concerns, gather facts, and speak with management on members’ behalf.

03

Help resolve concerns

Stewards review possible contract violations and assist with grievances through the agreement’s procedures.

04

Keep our crew connected

They share union information, welcome new members, encourage participation, and connect people with appropriate resources.

Could this be your next step?

If you care about your coworkers, listen with an open mind, and are willing to speak up for others, this role could be a meaningful way to serve our SAN crew.

Being a steward means taking time to understand concerns, learn the agreement, gather facts, and follow through. Fairness, good judgment, and respectful communication matter.

You don’t have to know everything on day one.

Bring a willingness to learn and ask questions. Experienced stewards and union resources can help you find answers as you grow into the role. Ready to put your name forward? Sign up October 12 through November 14, 2026.
